 May 5 - In the wake of the recent CDMA shutdown, President Gill Eason has invited comment by Singleton and surrounding Hunter residents on their experience with the the loss of CDMA coverage and the subsequent rolling out of the Telstra "Next G" Network. Despite promises made that the new network would offer great coverage and that previous CDMA customers would not be disadvantaged, it appears this may not be the case. If you ahve had an experience you would like to share or simply would like to leave comment you can either log into our forum or send your comments to news@singletonchamber.org.au. ALL COMMENTS will be acknowledged.

May 7 - Singleton VIC has announced thier booking deadline for inclusion in the Singleton Visitors' Guide is fast approaching- interested businesses should contact Ann Cameron of the VIC direct or download a Singleton Prospectus from our list of downloads below.

Apr 1 - The Government has kicked off the 2008 Parliamentary year by introducing legislation that will begin the implementation of its Forward with Fairness IR policies.On 28 March 2008, the Workplace Relations Amendment (Transition to Forward with Fairness) Act 2008 commences operation. This legislation starts the transition to the Government’s new national workplace relations system intended to cover the whole private sector, which is due to come fully into effect by 1 January 2010. However, this transition legislation does not affect employers currently not in the Federal system. Mar 31- Combined Chamber/Council Strategic Business Audit - At the last meeting, we decided on the consultant to be engaged and will do reference checking and finalisation of engagement after the committee meets with the consultant to confirm methods of operation and other details. We hope to be up and running by April!

Mar 25 - Gowrie Development gets Green Light - Council unanimously passed the D.A. for Macquarie Countrywide Trust for the Gowrie Mall refurbishments. Over $64 million will be spent on the redevelopment which commence as soon as the car park is finished on the old Lancasters site. Tim Francis from Macquarie will speak at the next Chamber meeting (April 8th), so make sure you come along with any queries you may have.(RSVP to Cheryl Knight cheryl.knight@wizard.com.au)
Around 400 jobs will be created once the centre is finished, and around 600 in the construction stage - all good for the town! Chamber is working with the developers and we will ensure that local businesses are included in any discussions with the developers.
