Spend in Singleton gift card program sees almost $300,000 spent locally

In December 2019, Singleton Business Chamber in partnership with Singleton Council, launched The Spend in Singleton gift card program to ensure dollars remain local and businesses are supported by the Singleton community.

As part of Council’s Community Support Package, the Business Supporting Local Business program was created, and Spend in Singleton played a major part.

Over three rounds, businesses affected by bush fires and COVID-19 were able to apply for cards loaded with a $250 credit to help them get back on their feet and purchase essentials such as food, office supplies and petrol or other goods and services.

At the end of 2020, a staggering $297,386 has been loaded onto over 4500 cards and $56,000 of that total was loaded in December alone, a record month for the program.

Christmas time saw several local employers and associations purchase cards for their employees and volunteers, greatly contributing towards an incredibly successful first year of the program.

Singleton Business Chamber President Sue Gilroy thanked each and every business that has participated to date and is amazed at the support for the program.

Our initial goal was to have 100 businesses participate and we’re at 120 and growing. To see almost $300,000 spent in our community has been a blessing for our economy particularly in a year that saw local businesses face many, many challenges. People have really embraced it and we look forward to seeing participation increase in 2021,” Sue Gilroy said.

Spend in Singleton, part of the Why Leave Town https://www.whyleavetown.com/ initiative, is free for businesses to participate and is as easy as swiping the gift card through their EFTPOS terminal.
