SUE GILROY STEPS DOWN AS PRESIDENT TO FOCUS ON NOMINATION AS CANIDATE IN UPCOMING BY-ELECTION

It is with great anticipation and excitement that the Singleton Business Chamber announces President Sue Gilroy is running for the position as Member for Upper Hunter in the State by-election to be held on the 22 May 2021.

“I’m am both humbled and happy for this potential opportunity to further represent the people of the Upper Hunter” said Sue Gilroy this morning “I have always favoured a future where I am able to be of service to our unique and diverse region and so it was a wonderful surprise when the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party approached me to run as their candidate in the forthcoming by-election. I’m incredibly passionate about what we do here in the Upper Hunter and proud of what we have all created and I want to make sure we are well represented to gain more than our fair share of attention, funding and support”.

During the six week campaign period Sue Gilroy will step aside from her Presidency role with the Singleton Business Chamber to focus on the election campaign.

Danny Eather, the current Vice President for the Singleton Business Chamber will step into the position of Acting-President until further roles are confirmed following the results of the By-Election.

“The Singleton Business Chamber would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue for her time and energy as President. While we understand that if elected as the next Member for Upper Hunter, it will sadly mean we will lose Sue’s leadership within the Chamber’s executive committee, so we wish her the very best. Said Danny Eather, Acting President.

“In the meantime the Chamber will continue to focus on the task of advocating on behalf of all members and the wider Singleton business community along with celebrating the successes as we near close to the annual Singleton Business Excellence Awards this coming May.” Mr Eather added.

Sue Gilroy has been an outstanding President for the Singleton Business Chamber and has been very busy in her fourth term elected. Sue’s diligence and hard work during her time in the President position has enabled a strong relationship with local government with direct financial benefit to the Singleton community, even during the extensive Drought, Bushfires and global pandemic period.  The “Business Supporting Businesses” Packages provided over $300,000 in Spend in Singleton Gift Cards and the Grant and Sponsorship Funding of over $400,000 was the greatest amount of funding secured in a one-year period. President Sue Gilroy was also involved, alongside Singleton Council, in lobbying and securing the local government infrastructure grants during the pandemic which resulted in the Federal Government announcing $560 million and State Government committing $140 million toward the Singleton bypass.
